Health is Wealth
Stay healthy and happy is the new fitness mantra nowadays because health is wealth. Most of us think about enrolling for the gym to stay fit. But my dear friends there are various other ways by which we can maintain and sustain our health. As the saying goes “where there is will there is the way”, if we set our mind to stay fit and healthy then we can find tools for the same.
How to stay fit?
There are 2 ways by which we can stay fit.
- Eat healthy food with a restraint
- Exercise regularly at a specific time.
Eating healthy is very important to attain fitness. Junk food should be avoided completely. Junk food metabolizes in the body to produce toxins that are harmful for the body. They tend to create stress in the metabolizing cells which are a major source of most physiological diseases. Therefore it is important to eat healthily. The diet should consist of a healthy dose of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat in optimal quantities as all these are required for the sustenance of body cells. It is extremely important to eat the right quantity of food at the right time as it goes a long way in deciding our quality of life.
There are 5 key fitness essentials for exercising. Let’s explore them one by one
Warm-up– Warm-up prepares the body for the intense work out session. It is like oiling a machine which lubricates its different parts to run without getting stuck. Morning walks enjoying nature, treadmilling, or cycling a stationary cycle are some of the easy ways to warm up the body.
Aerobics– Aerobic workout sets the cardiovascular system in motion. The heart starts pumping blood vigorously leading to better blood circulation in different parts of the body. Aerobic workout can be done at home by watching video tutorials. Various fitness apps can be downloaded from play store which can also track heartbeat and blood pressure. Skipping rope, walking up and down the stairs also is a cheaper but very effective version of aerobics at home. In fact, climbing stairs burn more calories than jogging.
Resistance building– Our limbs and muscles need to be strong for doing heavy work. Bones and muscles can be strengthened by doing simple squats, pushups, and abdominal crunches. All these are simple workouts that can be done at home.
Flexibility– When we exercise the muscle tone up and become strong. Excess fat is burned which slowly increases our flexibility. One of the best ways to develop flexibility is by doing yoga regularly. The simple yoga poses not only improve flexibility but also in the long run the body becomes light as a feather. The mobility of the body improves exponentially with yoga. Bending, stretching, shoulder rolls not only serve as a warm-up exercise but also improve flexibility in the long run.
Cooldown– After performing vigorous activities like aerobics, yoga especially Surya namaskar the body needs to cool down. Cooldown exercises enable the heart to return to its normal pace. Simple breathing exercises like pranayama, stretching, massage can bring the body to its stable state.
Do you feel that doing exercise is not possible at home? Then the simplest way to keep ourselves fit is to do household chores. Activities like the brooming and mopping floor, going for a stroll to buy groceries, washing clothes, etc. are simple practices that keep us healthy and fit.
