- Let your baby decide when and how much to feed
You don’t need to set predetermined feeding intervals; like the baby needs to feed every 2 hours and you wake a sleeping baby to feed. Never ever wake up a sleeping baby forcefully. Your baby will wake up when he is hungry. Similarly, do not deny him the feeding even if he fed half an hour ago. Your baby knows how and when to fill his tummy, so let him lead you.
- Look for signs to know Breastfeeding is going Well
We always worry about our milk supply, if the baby is getting enough or not, are we feeding too much or too little, etc. As Moms, worrying is our DNA. But too much of it will start giving you unnecessary stress which is not good for both you and your baby. Your baby’s behavior and health will tell you if nursing is going well or not. Make note of how many dirty diapers/nappies your baby has in a day, how often he is feeding, is he drowsy after feeding or cranky, etc. Tell your doctor about it, ask him what’s normal and what’s not. So that you can relax about your breastfeeding journey and let the stress go.
- Talk to Others
Talk about your experiences and challenges with your family and friends, or other Moms who are breastfeeding, or have done it before, someone who can understand and support you. It helps a lot.
- Look after yourself
Yes, your baby is your first priority right now. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore your health. You need to be healthy to keep your baby healthy. Eat healthy foods, stay hydrated, and try to catch up on your sleep as much as it’s possible with a newborn baby.
